The Gold Foundation convenes and sponsors lectures, workshops and symposia to bring together deans and medical educators to actively address the obstacles to humanism in medicine, and to discuss and craft methods for improving this critical aspect of medicine. Encouraging the national discourse on the need for doctors who embody both technical expertise and compassationate and respectful patient care is a key goal of the Foundation.  Click on the left to learn about our Barriers Symposia and our Humanism and Medicine Lecture at the annual meeting of the Association of American Medical Colleges.

The Gold Foundation supports innovate curricula and extra-curricula activities that sensitize physicians to the patient experience. While medical students usually begin their training with one foot still in the patient world, the education process often creates a widening gap between the student and the patient. The Gold Foundation has several initiatives that are designed to bridge that gap and to illuminate the patient's lived experience of illness and the healthcare system.
