The field of medicine often acknowledges scientific and technical expertise. However, the art of relationship-centered and compassionate care is often overlooked. The Gold Foundation understands that in order to be a complete doctor, both science and humanism must be fostered. Gold Foundation awards seek to elevate those humanistic qualities essential to good doctoring: integrity, excellence, compassion, altruism, respect, empathy and service.
The Gold Foundation highlights doctors at all levels of training. The Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Awards are presented to graduating medical students and medical school faculty. Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Awards are given to resident physicians. Specialty Society Awards and the Humanism in Medicine Award at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) annual meeting are bestowed upon doctors in practice.
